Year End 2012 - Kampung Mari ( Long Tailed Parakeet )

Koleksi gambar burung - burung ini diambil semasa percutian di kampung. Buah rambutan sedang masak ranum. Apa yang mengagumkan terdapat sekumpulan burung Bayan Nuri ( Long Tailed Parakeet ) yang sebelum ini tidak kelihatan di kawasan ini terbang hinggap di pepohon rambutan untuk makan. Semoga habitat burung ini tidak terganggu dan terus membiak.

Long Tailed Shrike ( Lifer )

The Long-tailed Shrike or Rufous-backed Shrike (Lanius schach) is a member of the bird family Laniidae, the shrikes. They are found widely distributed across Asia and there are variations in plumage across the range. The species ranges across much of Asia, both on the mainland and the eastern archipelagos. The eastern or Himalayan subspecies, L. s. tricolor, is sometimes called the Black-headed Shrike. Although there are considerable differences in plumage among the subspecies, they all have a long and narrow black tail, have a black mask and forehead, rufous rump and flanks and a small white patch on the shoulder. Gambar Long - Tailed Shrike ini diperolehi di sekitar kediaman aku Semenyih. Tidak sangka dapat menemui burung ini di kawasan paya berhampiran pada 15/12/2013. Walau bagaimanapun sayang sekali, aku rasa ini yang pertama dan terakhir aku dapat temuinya di kawasan ini, memandangkan kawasan ini telah dimajukan untuk kawasan perumahan pada hari aku menemuinya. Harap ianya terus membiak di kawasan ini untuk tatapan generasi akan datang.

Siberian Thrush

The Siberian Thrush (Zoothera sibirica) is a member of the Thrush family Turdidae.It breeds in taiga in Siberia. It is strongly migratory, with most birds moving to southeastern Asia during the winter. It is a very rare vagrant to western Europe. It is very secretive. The Siberian Thrush is similar in size to the Song Thrush. It is omnivorous, eating a wide range of insects, earthworms and berries. The male Siberian Thrush is a dark blue-grey above and below, with a white stripe above the eye. The lower belly and flanks are white. The female is a much browner bird, with a buff stripe above the eye. Source: Wikipedia

Cinnamon Bittern

The Cinnamon Bittern or Chestnut Bittern (Ixobrychus cinnamomeus) is a small bittern. It is of Old World origins, breeding in tropical and subtropical Asia from Pakistan east to China and Indonesia. It is mainly resident, but some northern birds migrate short distances.

This is a small species at 38 cm (15 in) length, though is one of the larger Ixobrychus bitterns. Possessing a short neck and longish bill, the male is uniformly cinnamon above and buff below. The female is similar but her back and crown are brown, and the juvenile is like the female but heavily streaked brown below.

When surprised on its nest or concerned, it assumes the characteristic attitude of bitterns, aptly termed the On-Guard. The neck is stretched perpendicularly, bill pointing skyward, while the bird freezes, becoming astonishingly obliterated amongst its reedy environment.^[2]

Their breeding habitat is reedbeds. They nest on platforms of reeds in shrubs. 4-6 eggs are laid. They can be difficult to see, given theirskulking lifestyle and reedbed habitat, but tend to emerge at dusk, when they can be seen creeping almost cat-like in search of frogs.

The Crimson-winged Woodpecker (Picus puniceus) is a species of bird in the Picidae family. It is found in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia,Myanmar, Singapore, and Thailand. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests.

It can grow up to 10 in (25 cm) long. Its main diet is mainly insects and larvae. Its a bright and colorful bird that is hard to be mistaken. They are large members of the picus family. Its status is least concern. Source: Wikipedia

Blue Eared Kingfisher

The Blue-eared Kingfisher (Alcedo meninting) is found in Asia, ranging across the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is found mainly in dense shaded forests where it hunts in small streams. It is darker crowned, with darker rufous underparts and lacking the rufous ear stripe of the Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) which is found in more open habitats. The Baya Weaver (Ploceus philippinus) is a weaverbird found across South and Southeast Asia. Flocks of these birds are found in grasslands, cultivated areas, scrub and secondary growth and they are best known for their hanging retort shaped nests woven from leaves. These nest colonies are usually found on thorny trees or palm fronds and the nests are often built near water or hanging over water where predators cannot reach easily.
