The Great Hornbill is one of the largest and most striking hornbill species found in the forests of South and Southeast Asia, including Malaysia. It features bold black and white plumage, along with a massive yellow casque atop its bill, which plays a role in vocal amplification and display. Preferring dense evergreen and deciduous forests, the Great Hornbill primarily feeds on fruits, especially figs, but it also consumes small animals. Known for its powerful flight and loud calls, this bird is vital for seed dispersal, contributing significantly to forest regeneration.
Classified as Vulnerable, with habitat destruction and hunting posing significant threats to its survival.
