BURUNG GAGAK GUNUNG
Green Magpie (Cissa chinensis)
21/06/2014
The Green Magpie is a vibrant and captivating bird found in South and Southeast Asia. It inhabits subtropical and tropical forests, preferring the dense undergrowth and bamboo thickets of hilly and montane regions.
This bird is medium-sized, about 32–34 cm long, and is known for its dazzling green plumage. The green coloration can sometimes appear more bluish in certain lighting or individuals. It has a black mask extending from its beak through the eyes, a reddish-orange bill and legs, and crimson red wings and tail feathers tipped with white. Juveniles are duller, with brownish or bluish tones instead of vivid green.
Green Magpies are omnivorous, feeding on insects, small reptiles, amphibians, fruits, and seeds. They are opportunistic foragers and are often seen hopping on the ground or low branches. Their call is a series of harsh, chuckling sounds.
Though stunning in appearance, their populations are declining due to habitat destruction and fragmentation, making conservation efforts crucial to their future.

A very beautiful bird. Magpies in Europe are dark and bad-famed, but this one seems different.
