Silver-eared Mesia (Leiothrix argentauris)
The Silver-eared Mesia is a small, colorful bird native to Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. It thrives in hill and submontane forests, often moving in noisy flocks.
This bird is about 15–17 cm long and is known for its vibrant plumage. It has a black head, bright silver ear patches, orange underparts, and a striking red patch on its wings. Males and females are similar, but males typically have more vivid coloration.
Silver-eared Mesias are omnivorous, feeding on insects, larvae, fruits, and seeds. They are social birds, often seen foraging in groups of up to 30 individuals. During the breeding season, they build deep cup-shaped nests near the ground, using bamboo leaves and other plant materials.
