Physical Appearance
- Males boast bright orange plumage on the head, breast, and belly, complemented by smooth bluish-grey upperparts.
- Females and juveniles are browner, with a more muted orange below.
- Some subspecies have black facial markings, adding to their distinctiveness.
Behavior & Ecology
- Prefers dense undergrowth, where it forages on the ground for insects, earthworms, and fruit.
- Shy and often solitary, it moves with a characteristic hopping motion, pausing to listen for prey.
- Its song is sweet, melodious, and varied, often resembling other thrush species.
Habitat & Range
- Found in moist forests, shaded gardens, and bamboo groves.
- Occurs from India and Nepal to Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, adapting well to different elevations.
