Red Headed Trogon (Harpactes erythrocephalus)
The red-headed trogon (Harpactes erythrocephalus) is a stunning bird species found in the forests of Southeast Asia, including Malaysia. It is known for its vivid coloration and striking appearance. The male red-headed trogon has a rich, crimson-red head and breast, contrasted with a dark blue back, wings, and tail. Its underparts feature a vibrant orange hue, creating a beautiful and distinctive palette. The female, while less vivid, has shades of brown and orange, offering subtler beauty.
These birds typically inhabit subtropical and tropical lowland forests, where they feed on insects, small fruits, and seeds. Red-headed trogons are solitary and quiet birds, often perched motionless, blending into their surroundings despite their striking colors.
